Welcome
Welcome to the modding site. Due to creative's original firmwares' lack of possibilities for customization and modification, some smart guys from the Epizenter and Rockbox communities have finally figured out how to put custom firmware on a lot of the creative players. This means non-standard fonts and themes can be used.
There has already been made a lot of themes for the Zen Vision:m 30 gb (which can be converted to 60 gb themes easily). Themes for other players could also be made, if someone with a player and some creativity are willing to put some time into it. Themes for the ZVM (zen vision:m) 30 gb version
To change the firmware, you'll usually use the CreativeWizard, although some of the guides use a hacked version of the original Creative updater. Guide: How to upload firmware If you want to MAKE themes using the CreativeWizard by Mcuelenaere, read this.
If you just want to upload a premade theme (some of them are really good, see zen vision:m themes) scroll about halfway to the bottom ot the tutorial linked to above to see how to upload the .bin (firmware) files.
Fonts for the zvm (zen vision:m) 30 gb can easily be changed. The easiest way would be to use the CreativeWizard, or follow this pictured guide Great thanks to mcuelenaere for both figuring out how to upload custom firmware and creating his CreativeWizard!

New version of Zslant theme
There's a new version of zslant out. I haven't had the time to upload pictures of it, though. Download it here
They say it's really awesome on Epizenter. And zslant v0.5 really was awesome, so I think it's worth a try.
Will add some pictures when I get my zvm back.
There's also been some activity in relation to other creative players than the zvm. I think there might be something going on for the zen v and the vision.

Uploaded original theme for the Zen Vision
This theme is editable using the CreativeWizard. I copied the theme editing guide by mcuelenaere from the old site. If you're interested in creating themes, take a look. [Linky]
The guide applies for all creative players supported by the CreativeWizard.

Tried hacking the Zen Vision W updater
I tried hacking the Zen Vision W updater today. I'm not sure if i did it right, though. Please tell me if it works when you've tried it. [LINKY] If it works, this is an alternative method to the creative wizard if you want to upload custom firmware.
There is now a font and a boot screen for the Zen Vision W in the downloads section.
Thanks to xsickpuppies for uploading.

Rockbox booted on the ZVM!
Rockbox booted on the ZVM 30 gb, but it's far away from finished. Mcuelenaere writes on the rockbox forums that he has managed to boot rockbox on the zvm, but the buttons are not working. I also think the installation process is pretty difficult at the moment, as I think you have to (correct me if I'm wrong) connect the zvm hard drive directly to a pc and format it to fat first. Anyways, it's great to see progress!
Mophead740 has uploaded a new theme, and a new boot screen. Haven't yet looked at them myself. You'll find them yourself in the downloads section.
somniossanctus writes that his cortana theme is nearly done. Maybe we can expect to see some results by the end of april.

New themes in development
I spoke to somniossanctus who's new to modding/theming. He's a student at Ringling School of Art and Design and seems like he could create some really cool themes. He's currently working on a halo3 inspired theme. He had some problems with the theme editor which he has hopefully solved by now. He says we might see something impressive coming out in the following couple of months.
He's also playing around with some other consepts as well, here's a quote from the pm he sent me:
wrote ... The sooner I get this stuff figured out, the sooner you and everyone else can get their hands on some juicy, juicy themes. I've already drawn up some drafts for a couple of urban grunge themes as well as electronica elemental themes that correspond with Zen's available colors.
Seems like the problem might have been that there were four extra bytes at the end of the original theme causing some error messages when using the creativewizard. Removed them. so it should work smoothly by now.
I also copied some sentences over from the old site, and created a stub on boot screen creation.

Added original font for the 30 gb zvm and the ZenUtils
I finally got back from my easter vacation, and after bringing the site back online after some short downtime, I added the zenutils and the original font firmware to the downloads section.
It seems like there's been a lot of progress on the rockbox port. I haven't had the time to look at it and compile it myself, but I took a glance at the rockbox zvm port tracker and it seems there's been a lot of activity. http://www.rockbox.org/

New guides added
I've completed the guide on how to upload firmware. It should be easier for beginners to understand how to upload themes now.
I also made a guide on how to create font firmware.
I've made a theme editor pack. That includes everything you need to make themes.
It consists of: firmware editor (theme editor) by hitman2k7 zvm theme viewer by hitman2k7 nullblockfixer by bobbaluba nk.bin - file with the original theme.
everything EXCEPT the firmware upgrader, which is about 15 mb, so i didn't include it. Or use the CreativeWizard for uploading. I also made some readmes to make it easier to understand how to do it.
